In brief

Technical SEO is the part your customer never sees.

Technical SEO is the work that makes sure a search engine can reach your site, read it and treat it as trustworthy. Content and links are the visible side of search visibility. The technical side decides whether that content gets considered at all.

In practice it comes down to a handful of questions. Can Googlebot find your pages, and does it have enough time to get through them. Does the page load fast enough on a phone. Does the structure tell a machine which page matters and which is a duplicate. Can the search engine work out what you sell without guessing.

Answering those questions is a different job from producing content, and it takes different skills. That is why technical SEO is usually bought separately or as part of a wider search engine optimisation programme. If you would rather understand the topic first, read our technical SEO guide, which covers the fundamentals without a sales pitch.

What is included

What we do on your behalf.

Six areas, covered in every engagement. The emphasis shifts depending on what your site actually suffers from.

Crawl budget

On large sites Googlebot never gets through everything. We work out where its time goes, cut the pointless parameter URLs and endless filter pages, and steer the crawl budget towards the pages that earn money.

Indexing

We find the pages missing from the index and the reason why: robots.txt, noindex, canonical conflicts, redirect chains or weak internal linking. The Search Console coverage report is read line by line.

Site architecture

Structure decides which pages carry weight. We design the category hierarchy, internal linking and URL structure so the pages that matter sit close to the front page and collect the most internal links.

Core Web Vitals

LCP, INP and CLS are measured from field data, not just a lab test. Fixes are prioritised by what actually slows the page down: images, server response time, render-blocking code or third-party scripts.

Structured data

Schema markup tells the search engine what is on the page. We implement product, service, article, FAQ and organisation markup, and repair the broken markup many themes generate automatically.

Large websites

On sites with tens of thousands of pages the problems are of a different order: faceted navigation, localisation, hreflang, pagination and duplicates. These need log file analysis, not a generic checklist.

Which of these applies to your site?

Discovery

First we establish what is actually broken.

We always start by measuring. We crawl the site, read the server logs, go through the Search Console coverage and Core Web Vitals reports and compare the picture against competitors. This stage typically takes a week.

  • Technical audit and log file analysis
  • Index coverage and blockers
  • Speed measured from field data
01

The audit is fixed-price

You get the written report even if the work goes no further with us.

Prioritisation

The order of fixes matters more than their number.

An audit usually produces dozens of findings. Working through them in random order wastes money. We estimate the impact and the effort for each one, and produce a list where the biggest effect for the least work sits at the top.

  • Impact estimated in euros, not scores
  • Effort and ownership made explicit
  • What you can do in-house, what we do
02

You get a list, not a report

Every item says what to do, why, and who does it.

Implementation

The fixes get made, not merely recommended.

We either make the changes ourselves or brief your developers, whichever is faster. Work ships in small batches, and after each batch we check that nothing broke. On large sites changes go through a staging environment first.

  • Small, measurable batches
  • Regression check after each batch
  • Documentation for your developers
03

We do not leave you with a report

A recommendation that never reaches production produces nothing.

Measurement

The effect is proven with numbers.

After the fixes we track indexed page counts, crawl frequency, Core Web Vitals and organic traffic. We report monthly on what changed and what it meant in traffic. If something did not work, we say so plainly.

  • Monthly report without spin
  • Metrics before and after
  • Priorities for the next period
04

Measurement continues after the fixes

Technical health decays on its own if nobody is watching.

Typical situations

The problems we fix most often.

These situations come up so often in engagements that they are worth naming. If you recognise your own site in one of them, the problem is most likely fixable within a few weeks.

  • Pages never reach the index. Search Console says discovered but not indexed. The cause is almost always weak internal linking, a canonical conflict, or the page offering nothing that is not already available elsewhere.
  • Shop filters eat the crawl budget. Faceted navigation generates hundreds of thousands of URLs, none of which deserve indexing. Googlebot spends its time on those instead of your actual product pages.
  • The site is fast on the developer machine and slow in the field. The lab test is green while real user measurements say otherwise. The gap usually comes from mobile networks, third-party scripts and font loading.
  • A migration dropped the traffic. A new site launched, URLs changed and redirects were done incompletely. This is recoverable, but the longer it waits the more is lost.
  • An international site competes with itself. Hreflang is missing or contradictory, and Google serves the wrong language version to the wrong audience.
  • Nobody knows what is broken. The most common starting point. The site is not growing, but the cause has never been investigated, because no one in the company is equipped to look.
Quick test

Check your site’s technical health in a minute.

Six questions, and you get a health index, your three most important fixes and a price estimate. No contact details required.

Who it is for

When it pays to hire a technical SEO specialist.

Technical SEO is worth buying in when the site is too large or too complex to handle with general skills. In practice that threshold shows up in four situations.

The first is size. Once a site has thousands or tens of thousands of URLs, the problems stop being visible to the eye and show up only in log analysis. The second is change: a redesign, a platform migration or going international are the moments when technical mistakes cost the most and are cheapest to prevent in advance. The third is when content and advertising have already been funded but the results do not match the spend. The bottleneck is often technical.

The fourth is quieter but common: the site has run for years without anyone checking its technical health. The platform has updated, plugins have accumulated, old campaign pages linger and redirects have been layered on top of each other. No single item is dramatic, but together they slow the site and confuse the search engine about what matters. Clearing that accumulated debt is often the cheapest way to gain organic traffic.

If you have your own development team, we work with them: we say what needs doing and why, they implement. If you do not, we make the changes ourselves. Both models work, and the price is much the same.

Analysis

What a technical SEO analysis actually covers.

The audit is the foundation for everything that follows, so it is worth setting out what it contains. We do not run an automated tool and forward its report, because a tool does not know your business and cannot tell a meaningful error from a cosmetic one.

The analysis starts with a crawl, in which every discoverable URL is classified. That shows how many pages are indexable, how deep the important pages sit and how much duplication exists. Next we read the server logs, which reveal where Googlebot genuinely spends its time. This is the only way to see how the crawl budget is really distributed, and on large sites it usually exposes the single biggest problem.

Third, we go through the excluded pages in the Search Console coverage report, because that is where Google states in its own words why pages were left out. Fourth, speed is measured from field data, meaning real users’ devices rather than a developer machine. Last we check structured data, hreflang and the mobile version.

The output is a list where every finding states what is broken, what it costs you and how large the fix is. The report is written to be understood without a technical background, while carrying enough detail for a developer to act on.

Pricing

Audit, project or ongoing partnership.

Three ways to buy, depending on whether you need a one-off diagnosis or a permanent pair of hands.

Technical SEO audit, €1,500–3,500. A one-off diagnosis priced by the size of the site. You get a written report, a prioritised action list with impact estimates and an hour-long walkthrough. This is enough for most small and mid-sized companies, and you are free to have the fixes done by anyone you like.

Fix project, €2,000–8,000. The audit findings get implemented. The price is agreed in advance from the action list, so you know the cost before work starts. Typical duration is four to ten weeks.

Ongoing technical partnership, €600–2,500 per month. Suited to sites that change constantly: online shops, multilingual sites and growth companies. Includes monitoring, a monthly report, fixes as issues appear and technical support for your development team.

All prices exclude VAT. The discovery call is free, and you get a fixed quote before anything begins. If you need content and links alongside the technical work, see the SEO service page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a technical SEO consultant cost?

A one-off technical audit runs €1,500–3,500 depending on site size, a fix project €2,000–8,000, and an ongoing partnership €600–2,500 per month. We do not bill by the hour, because that rewards slowness. You get a fixed price before we start.

How is technical SEO different from regular SEO?

Regular SEO covers content, keywords and links. Technical SEO is about whether the search engine can reach your site, read it and trust it. Without the technical foundation, content work does not pay off, because the content never gets considered. Most often the two are bought together.

How quickly do technical fixes show up?

The fastest effects, such as removing indexing blockers or fixing redirect chains, appear within two to six weeks. Architecture changes and Core Web Vitals improvements work more slowly, typically two to four months. Technical SEO is still the fastest-acting part of search visibility.

Do you implement the fixes or only give recommendations?

Either works. If you have a development team, we hand them documented instructions and answer questions during implementation. If you do not, we make the changes ourselves. A report without implementation changes nothing, so we do not recommend that route.

Is this suitable for large websites?

Yes, and that is where the benefit is greatest. On sites with tens of thousands of pages, crawl budget, faceted navigation, pagination and duplication require log analysis and interpretation of crawl data. Generic checklists do not resolve these.

What do you need from us to get started?

Access to Search Console and analytics, ideally also to server logs and the CMS. Discovery can begin with the public site alone, but log data sharpens the picture considerably on large sites.

How does technical SEO relate to AI search?

The same barriers hurt both. If a site cannot be indexed or is slow, it reaches neither search results nor language model answers. The technical foundation serves both, and the specifics of AI visibility are covered on the GEO service page.
